Centralina WDB NextGen – Time to Level Up!

Dec 09, 2018

Time to Level Up!  That was the theme at the Centralina WDB NextGen Council meeting held on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College in Concord before a packed house.

Over 50 attendees included NextGen Board members, local employers, community partners, Centralina NCWorks staff and leaders, and Centralina Workforce Development Staff and leaders - all eager to learn about the progress that Centralina WDB NextGen services made during 2018 as well as a recap on the program’s great work throughout the region.

Centralina Workforce Development Board NEXTGEN Specialist Solomon McAuley challenged all those in attendance to “Level Up” and step up to the plate in 2019 and work harder to help bring the Centralina WDB NextGen services to more youth in the region.

“As we look throughout our region and all the positive things that are going on, we still have room to strengthen our NextGen services so today’s meeting theme was simply to Level-Up! When you Level-Up you evaluate the progress that has been made but at the same time embrace the challenges while discussing possible solutions,” said McAuley.

During Tuesday’s meeting three NextGen participants received Certificate of Achievement Awards.  Opal Cook and Benjamin Lee were awarded for their successful completion and attainment of a G.E.D. and Porsheya Miller received an award for Peer Support Certification, Successful Completion of Work Experience and Obtaining a Full Time Job.

On November 15, 2018, NextGen hosted an open house at all eight Centralina NCWorks Career Centers throughout the region reaching over 50 youth and young adults in just one day.  The open houses were designed to introduce NextGen services to more individuals throughout the region.

Gary Mason, NCWorks-Centralina NextGen Services Leader stated from October 2018 to November 2018, NextGen enrollment has tripled. In 2018, there has also been a 75 percent increase from 2017 in services provided to customers.

“In 2019 we look to increase our quality of service, work experience, and training opportunities through increased partnerships throughout the Centralina WDB region,” added Mason.
