Dora Devarie, Disabled Veterans Outreach Program (DVOP) Specialist was recently presented with the 2023 National Veterans Employment & Education Commission Employment Service Award for the category of Disabled Veterans Outreach Program. As the Consolidated Veterans Employment Career Consultant for Union, Stanly, and Anson counties, Ms. Devarie is solely responsible for assisting military veterans and eligible spouses with specific barriers to employment in gaining meaningful employment through individualized career services. "Ms. Devarie is a staunch advocate for veterans and possesses the necessary skills and traits which continues to amaze me," said Thomas Foster, NCWorks Career Center Union Center Leader.

A Navy veteran and former Hospital Corpsman, Ms. Devarie's advocacy and deep concern for veterans is evident in all that she does while serving her veteran community. Her willingness to organize and coordinate a donation drive that led to the collection and contribution of close to $400 of needed toiletries, socks, lip balm, and hygiene kits for Salisbury VA Hospital patients from her fellow center teammates on behalf of her American Legion Post 540, the only All-Female post in the State of North Carolina, is just one of the many reasons she was selected for this prestigious award.

On August 4, 2023, Ms. Devarie was visited at the NCWorks Career Center Union by Mr. Archie Barrow, American Legion Awards Committee Chair who personally presented her with the American Legion's Annual Employment Service Award Plaque. During his visit, Mr. Barrow shared his thoughts with Dora and the center leader on the importance of DVOPs and stated that "Ms. Devarie's advocacy and outstanding work assisting veterans with specific barriers to employment was indeed worthy of her being selected as the award recipient."
The Centralina Workforce Development Board is extremely proud of Dora Devarie and the impact that she makes on a daily basis to the veterans in the Centralina WDB region.
