NCWorks Career Center-Lincoln Staff Go the Extra Mile to Give Local Family a Brighter Christmas

NCWorks Career Center – Lincoln customer and Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) participant Janae Mosteller is no different than many other Americans during the holiday season, trying to balancing bills and funds for Christmas presents.
Janae, a married mother of two works part-time in healthcare. Her husband works full-time and they are having a hard time making ends meet. Despite the difficult times, NCWorks Career Center–Lincoln Career Talent Development Consultant Marcie Metts says Janae rarely misses appointments and follows up with all requests in a timely manner.
A week before Christmas, Marcie saw Janae to complete a follow up appointment for supportive services when Janae asked about possible assistance with bill payments and if Marcie knew of anyone that was donating Christmas gifts.
That day, Marcie and coworker Lavetra Dix put their heads together and made a plan to assist Janae’s family with Christmas gifts and other donated items (food and clothes) to get them through the holidays.
“We wanted to lighten her load so she would have less that she had to worry about around the holidays and she can focus more on her upcoming semester in school. As career advisor people share their lives with us. If I see a need, with the assistance of coworkers and community partners we will our best to fill that need,” explained Marcie.
The Career Center’s Disabled Veterans Outreach Program Specialist (DVOP) Darryl Barber pitched in to help put Marcie in touch with Bessemer City Crisis Center and they provided bikes and other toys for Janae’s children.
“I know trying to go to nursing school, work, and maintain home life can be tedious,” said Lavetra, “Janae is a hard-working, dedicated mother and student, I felt the need to assist her with her request. I’m happy that I was able to help with providing her children with some clothing and a gift for Christmas.”
Marcie recalls Janae’s shock as she did not expect this from the staff. Janae said that her kids will have a great Christmas thanks to the NCWorks Career Center – Lincoln staff.
The Centralina Workforce Development Board, which is responsible for the oversight and operation of eight local NCWorks Career Centers, is proud of the team spirit that the NCWorks Career Center-Lincoln staff displayed in assisting Janae Mosteller.
